Create a Wheels Hub at the Southern end of Ian Galloway Park by adding a regional scale Pump Track and Dirt Jumps to the existing BMX track & skate ramps.
In early 2025 Wellington City Council will be conducting needs analysis to inform the master plan for Ian Galloway Park.

The proposal is to co-locate a range of wheels related activities to create a hub facility with a focus on youth sport and recreation.
The existing BMX track and skate ramps are the starting point, and the plan would see further developments of these facilities and space allocated for additions including:
A regional scale asphalted destination pump track
A series of progressive dirt jump lines
A (potential future) skate park
A (potential future) playground
Co-location of different wheels-based facilities – BMX, skate, pump, jump - has many benefits:
Parents can cater for children of differing ages and abilities at a single venue
Riding skills are complementary and with co-location, riders get to see the other disciplines in action nearby and the opportunity to try another sport
A concentration of facilities will become a ‘destination’ and drive participation in all sports.
Ian Galloway Park is the ideal location for a Wheels Hub with good links for northern, western and central suburbs. There is a wide catchment for users of a Wheels Hub, and multiple schools nearby:
The Capital BMX track is the only BMX racetrack in Wellington – the next nearest is in Upper Hutt 35km away.
There is no current skate park in Karori to complement the vert ramps, so kids & other skaters have to travel across town.
The small pump track at Miramar is often overcrowded, and not so easily accessible from Western and Northern suburbs. Catchment for a larger track would be the whole region.
Similarly, a series of progressive dirt jumps, modelled on Queenstown’s Gorge Road, would be a massive draw for riders from all across Wellington, particularly given proximity to Makara Peak MTB park. The Con-Air jumps at Miramar are hugely popular and there is pent up demand for easily accessible jumps from those who live West & North.
If you'd like to see a regional scale pump track in Wellington, please also email the city's councillors so they can provide support as the master plan process works its way through system.
